Dementia awareness

This course is designed to provide a thorough awareness of dementia, and reflects cur-rent best practice standards

Who should attend?

Care Assistants, Housekeeping staff, Catering staff, ancillary staff.

What are the benefits of attending?

By the end of the programme you will:

  • Be able to define dementia.
  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and boundaries of individuals within a care environment.
  • Know how to support individuals with dementia.
  • Be aware of the legislation relevant to individuals with dementia.
  • Understand effective behaviours in relation to dementia care.
  • Understand the importance of challenging poor practice in relation to dementia care.

  • What are the signs and symptoms of dementia?
  • The legislation and guidance relevant to individuals with dementia.
  • Communication and recording.
  • Person-centred approach.
  • Safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

How long does the programme last?

This is a one day programme.
